Boiler installation in Fulham

  • Converted flats where the flue must reach an outside wall that could be a fair distance away
  • Lower-ground and basement rooms where condensate has to be pumped, not left to fall by gravity
  • Party walls and shared stacks restricting where pipes can run

Fulham’s flat conversions very often have the combi squeezed into a kitchen cupboard, and a replacement is a chance to check it has the clearances needed for servicing. Where the flue comes out matters to the neighbours. A terminal below the upper flat’s window, or close to a shared side return, sends steam where people notice it, and a plume kit can move the discharge away. Any new hole through the outside wall usually needs the freeholder’s agreement first. Our base is on the High Street, so the van is never far away, but most streets are permit parking and a visitor permit or bay suspension makes loading easier. The new boiler goes up a narrow shared staircase and the old one comes down it, so the common parts are covered first. The engineer who fits it notifies building control, and the compliance certificate is posted to you afterwards.

Questions

Questions we often get

Do you work in Fulham?

We do. Fulham falls within Hammersmith and Fulham, covering the SW6, SW10, W6, W14 postcodes, and our engineers are out across Greater London from our Fulham office every day.

Can a boiler still be fitted if there is no outside wall near where it goes?

Usually it can, though a twin-flue system may be needed, as it allows a much longer flue run than a standard boiler. That has to be designed properly, not improvised, and it limits which units are suitable. We check the route before suggesting anything.

Our gas meter is in the communal hall downstairs. Does that affect a new boiler?

It can. The pipe carrying gas up to the flat must be sized for the new boiler, and a modern combi draws more gas at full output than many older boilers. A long run up through a converted house may be too narrow, which shows up as poor hot water. We check the pressure at the boiler with it running. If the pipe needs upgrading through communal areas, the freeholder may need to agree.

How much will it cost?

Before an engineer starts, you are given a price for the job. Should something hidden in a wall change what is needed, we stop and discuss it with you first, instead of pressing on and sending the bill later.
