Boiler installation in Ealing

  • Homes with more bathrooms and more people than when the last boiler was fitted
  • Swapping a combi for a system boiler where hot water use at the same time has outgrown it
  • Kitchen-cupboard boilers that later extension work has boxed in

Many of Ealing’s large Edwardian houses still run an old heat-only boiler with a cylinder and two tanks in the loft. Replacing that with a system boiler and an unvented cylinder frees the loft and gives mains pressure at every tap, but only if the incoming supply can deliver it. Houses of this age sometimes still have a narrow lead supply pipe from the street, and that caps what any new setup can do. We measure flow and pressure at the kitchen tap before recommending anything. In the 1930s purpose-built flats, you own the boiler but not the wall it flues through, so a changed terminal position needs the freeholder’s agreement. Parking near the Broadway is mostly permit-controlled; further out, front drives make delivery easy. Either way, the Gas Safe engineer registers the job with building control, so there is no separate application to make.

Questions

Questions we often get

Do you work in Ealing?

We do. Ealing falls within Ealing, covering the W5, W13, W3, UB1 postcodes, and our engineers are out across Greater London from our Fulham office every day.

Now we have a second bathroom, should we change the type of boiler?

You might. A combi heats water as it is drawn and can only supply one main outlet properly at once, so it struggles when two showers run together. If that will happen often, go for a system boiler and cylinder. If not, a combi of the right size remains the simpler, cheaper choice.

Can we get rid of the tanks in the loft when the boiler is replaced?

Usually, if the mains supply is good enough. Going to a system boiler with an unvented cylinder, or a combi in a smaller house, removes the need for loft tanks. The catch in older houses is the incoming pipe. If flow at the kitchen tap is poor, an unvented setup will be poor too, and upgrading the supply pipe is a separate job. We test it first so you know which way to go.

How much will it cost?

Before an engineer starts, you are given a price for the job. Should something hidden in a wall change what is needed, we stop and discuss it with you first, instead of pressing on and sending the bill later.
