Emergency plumber in Enfield

  • Stopcocks under floors, in garages or in outbuildings, not beneath the kitchen sink
  • Pipes bursting in unheated outbuildings as a freeze thaws
  • Long outdoor runs where a leak shows up far from where it started

Enfield’s winter emergencies tend to happen in the places nobody goes in the evening. A pipe that split in the garage during a freeze may only start leaking as it thaws, and the first sign is often water running out under the door and across the drive. If that happens, the stopcock is the priority, and on these plots it may be in that same garage, so keep the key somewhere you can find it. Never thaw a frozen pipe with a blowtorch or open flame. Gentle heat from a hairdryer or warm cloths is safer, used with the water off and kept well away from anything wet. Inside the house, check around the loft hatch and any pipe on an outside wall. For a night callout, the engineer will need the garage or outbuilding unlocked, a clear path to it and some light. On bigger plots, tell us whether to come to the front door or straight round the side.

Questions

Questions we often get

Do you work in Enfield?

We do. Enfield falls within Enfield, covering the EN1, EN2, EN3, N9 postcodes, and our engineers are out across Greater London from our Fulham office every day.

What should I do while I wait if I cannot find the stopcock?

Check under the kitchen sink, then the garage, utility room or downstairs cloakroom, because in homes out this way it is frequently nowhere near the kitchen. Failing that, there is normally an outside stop tap beneath a small metal cover close to the boundary. Ring and tell us, and we will help you find it.

There is a wet patch on the lawn and our water pressure has dropped. Is that our pipe?

It may well be. On a long plot, the supply pipe from the boundary to the house runs under the garden, and older ones can split or corrode. If the wet patch is between the outside stop tap and the house, the pipe is usually the owner’s responsibility. If it is on the pavement side of the stop tap, report it to your water company instead. It is rarely a flood, so it can often wait for daylight if the pressure holds.

How much will it cost?

Before an engineer starts, you are given a price for the job. Should something hidden in a wall change what is needed, we stop and discuss it with you first, instead of pressing on and sending the bill later.
