Emergency plumber in Ealing

Bathrooms have been added to Ealing’s bigger Edwardian houses over the decades, often on long pipe runs. In an emergency there, the job is normally to isolate the correct branch instead of turning off water to the entire property.

Locally, this is what comes up

Emergency plumber in Ealing

  • Big houses where a single branch can be shut off while the rest keeps its water
  • Several bathrooms, added over the decades, on long pipe runs
  • Shared cold water storage in purpose-built blocks of flats

Ealing splits neatly for emergency work. In the large Edwardian and interwar houses, the job is often finding which of several bathrooms is actually leaking. Look at the ceiling stain and work out what sits directly above it, then check the floor around the shower tray, bath panel and toilet in that room. If you can isolate just that bathroom, the rest of the house carries on. In the 1930s purpose-built blocks, cold water often comes from a communal tank on the roof rather than straight off the mains, so the valve for your flat may be on a landing or in a cupboard shared with a neighbour. The porter or managing agent usually knows where. At night, blocks with a porter’s lodge may have nobody on duty, so have the agent’s emergency number ready. The larger houses are easier: just tell us whether to use the front door or a side entrance.

Questions

Questions we often get

Do you work in Ealing?

We do. Ealing falls within Ealing, covering the W5, W13, W3, UB1 postcodes, and our engineers are out across Greater London from our Fulham office every day.

Does the water to the whole house need to go off?

Not always. Under most kitchen and bathroom fittings the supply pipe has a small isolation valve, with a screwdriver slot that needs a quarter turn. Close the one feeding the leaking fitting and everywhere else stays on.

I live in a purpose-built block. Can you work on the communal pipework?

We can, but only with the managing agent’s agreement, because communal tanks, risers and pipes serving several flats belong to the building rather than to you. In an emergency we isolate what we safely can to stop the damage, then report back to the agent. If the leak is on pipework serving only your flat, you can instruct us directly. Have the agent’s out-of-hours number ready when you call.

How much will it cost?

Before an engineer starts, you are given a price for the job. Should something hidden in a wall change what is needed, we stop and discuss it with you first, instead of pressing on and sending the bill later.
