Boiler service in Acton

  • Older South Acton conversions with their own boilers of assorted ages
  • Communal systems in North Acton blocks, where the equipment on the flat side is what gets checked
  • Boilers moved during extensions, now and then into awkward spots for servicing

Acton’s older terraces and conversions tend to have combis in kitchens or in a cupboard on the landing, and plenty of them are let, often to sharers. That means most services here are booked by a landlord or agent, with a tenant letting the engineer in, and the gas safety record and the service done in the same visit. Where the boiler was moved into a rear extension, the flue and the condensate pipe sometimes ended up longer than the manufacturer allows, or with extra bends added, which is worth checking against the installation instructions. Towards Acton Green and the W4 edge the houses are larger, with some system boilers and cylinders to look at alongside the boiler. Parking in the controlled zones near the stations is by permit or pay-by-phone, while streets further from the centre are easier, and engineers come across from Fulham.

Questions

Questions we often get

Do you work in Acton?

We do. Acton falls within Ealing, covering the W3, NW10, W4 postcodes, and our engineers are out across Greater London from our Fulham office every day.

My flat is in a newly built North Acton block. What needs servicing?

Quite often there is no boiler. Many of those blocks are on communal heating, and every flat has its own heat interface unit. The unit is worth checking from time to time, but that is no gas service, and the building owns the plant that supplies it. We will take a look and tell you which setup is yours.

The boiler was moved during our extension. How do I know it was done properly?

Ask for the paperwork first. A boiler moved by a Gas Safe engineer should have been notified, and you should have a Building Regulations compliance certificate for it. On the next service the engineer checks the flue length and bends against the manufacturer’s limits, the condensate pipe, and whether the flue is still clear of openings. If something is wrong, we explain it and price the fix before touching anything.

How much will it cost?

Before an engineer starts, you are given a price for the job. Should something hidden in a wall change what is needed, we stop and discuss it with you first, instead of pressing on and sending the bill later.
