Boiler repair in Putney
- Mansion blocks by the river with shared plant and access run by the agent
- Homes on the Roehampton estate that use communal heating
- Pumped drainage and waste in lower-ground rooms by the river, adding more that can fail
Away from the river, much of Putney is large Victorian and Edwardian family housing, and those houses often run a system boiler with an unvented cylinder, put in when the loft tank came out during a loft or bathroom upgrade. Faults there are as often the cylinder’s controls, valves or expansion vessel as the boiler. Terraces nearer the bridge are more commonly divided into two or three flats, each with its own combi. The riverside mansion blocks usually need a managing agent’s agreement for anything beyond a like-for-like part, and some ask for notice before contractors arrive. At Roehampton the estate blocks are largely on communal heating, and council tenants report faults to the council, while leaseholders with their own boilers arrange repairs themselves. Parking near the high street is difficult, but most residential roads have permit or short-stay bays.

Questions we often get
Do you work in Putney?
We do. Putney falls within Wandsworth, covering the SW15, SW18 postcodes, and our engineers are out across Greater London from our Fulham office every day.
What can you fix in my flat if the block runs on communal heating?
Anything from the point the system comes into your flat onwards: radiators, controls, the cylinder, and a heat interface unit if there is one. The communal boiler plant is the building’s, and work on it must be instructed by the agent or freeholder. Before you are charged for anything, we will say which side of that line the fault falls.
A pipe outside keeps dripping near where my cylinder is. Is that serious?
It needs looking at soon. On an unvented cylinder, that pipe carries water from the safety valves, and a steady drip usually means the expansion vessel has lost its charge or a valve is letting by. Many larger Putney houses switched to unvented cylinders when their loft tanks were removed. It is not the boiler, but the cylinder’s safety parts must work properly, so book it in rather than living with the drip.
How much will it cost?
Before an engineer starts, you are given a price for the job. Should something hidden in a wall change what is needed, we stop and discuss it with you first, instead of pressing on and sending the bill later.
